It's back! For the third year in a row on Holy Thursday, Broadway-Fillmore Alive has put together a self-guided tour of seven historic churches in the Broadway-Fillmore area partaking in the traditional visitation of the Blessed Sacrament on this holy night.

Visitation generally begins after 7pm and the churches remain open till around 11pm.

The churches in Buffalo’s historic Polonia are awe inspiring and are deeply rooted in tradition…this is a way to experience their religious, artistic and cultural beauty while spending some time in prayer and reflection in this most sacred time of the year.

"The Great Lakes basin is one of the largest freshwater ecosystems on earth, and it is also home to forty million people in the United States and Canada," says Peter Annin, author of the award-winning book The Great Lakes Water Wars, a subject he will discuss at length in a talk--free and open to the public--at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26th, in Bulger Communications Center, Buffalo State College. This event is cosponsored by Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER and Buffalo State Communication Department and made possible, in part, by a grant from LPCiminelli, Inc.

There are several threats to the quantity of Great Lakes water: climate change, diversion, and consumptive uses. There are currently four diversions of water out of the Great Lakes basin, the largest of which is protected by the United States Supreme Court. Some policymakers in the American southwest seriously consider Great Lakes water as a possible solution to their water-supply problems.

A veteran conflict and environmental journalist, Peter Annin spent more than a decade reporting for Newsweek on issues ranging from the Branch Davidian standoff in Waco, Texas and the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing to droughts, hurricanes, wildfires, and other environmental issues. Since January 2000, he is Associate Director of the Institutes for Journalism and Natural Resources, a nonprofit that organizes educational fellowships for environmental journalists and pursues quality news coverage of the environment.

Saving the Sattler Theatre

The new owners of the Broadway (AKA Sattler's) Theatre have a new website:

"One of our short term goals as owners of The Broadway Theatre is to have an immediate positive impact on the employment figures in the city by the creation of at least one hundred new jobs with focus on creating more jobs as business increases. Another short term goal of the Western New York Minority Media Professionals Inc. (WNYMMP) is the creation of an educational scholarship program for financially disadvantaged African American youths interested in attending college through our arts and education component."
